As a club we have in the past run a 100 mile charity cycle ride racing money for causes close to one of the members hearts, well this year we will be running two rides – one for the Medium group (100mile) on the 8th of August, and a second ride for the Mellow group (100Km) on the 22nd of August.
This year we will be riding to support two club members who have grandchildren who have succumbed to dreadful illnesses. Firstly, One little girl has developed Retts Syndrome – which is a rare genetic disorder that affects brain development, resulting in severe mental and physical disability, and is incurable. The second is Isolated Sulphite Oxidase Deficiency. which means that a baby body cannot not fully
break down the sulphites it created. What is left over eventually becomes toxic to their brain, resulting in several metabolic strokes and seizures.
We are only a week away for the first of the charity rides for this year, so if you would like to take part and have no yet confirmed your place, please let us know.
I thought it best to update you all on the method to donate money to the charity fund. As our bank account is classed a business, we are unable to use it with any of the charity collection web sites, and it would also be difficult to use this platform to split the fund between two recipients, so we have decided to use the club bank account to collate the donations. Could you please then donate what you can want to give to these worthy causes by using:
Account Name: Freewheeling Cycle Club – Bank Name: Nat West Bank – Sort Code: 60-01-01 – Account Number: 41370325 – Please add your name & Charity in the reference.
As in previous years, we are not asking for members to collect sponsorship, but to make a donation of whatever you can afford to the fund. After both rides have taken place, we will split the donations between both worthy causes. If you would like to take part in either of the club runs, please let us know by replying to us at email@example.com stating which ride you would like to take part in.
The Medium Group ride – 100mile, with cafe stops at Highworth or Lechlade, Lunch stop at Bourton on the Water and a final cafe stop in Woodstock
The Mellow group ride – 100km, the first cafe stop will be at Highworth, Lunch at Lechlade and a final cafe stop at Aston Pottery.
If the weather on either day is forecast to be unsuitable for club riding, we will move to the following weekend. If you have any comments, concerns or queries, please let us know.
